Hello future readers,
This past Tuesday and Wednesday, our friend Cheryl was at home with a bad cold. She had a sore throat, headache and sniffles. What a drag! I knew Cheryl was bummed out, because she can never sit still for very long. She always has to be doing something, like running around, jumping rope, playing hopscotch..anything where she's up and moving around! So on Wednesday after school, Sunny and I went to her house to cheer her up. But first we stopped at the candy store, to get her some surprises. When we went up to her room, we found her sitting up in bed, trying to eat some vegetable soup and drink some orange juice.
She looked happy to see us as we came in. She could barely whisper "Hi you guys". Poor Cheryl!
We sat down and got out out surprises. Sunny bought her a bag of her favorite sour balls to suck on to help her throat feel better.
And I brought her a "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" comic book, so she wouldn't feel so bored staying in bed.
"Would you like me to read some of it to you?", I asked. She nodded her head yes. So Sunny and Cheryl had a few sour balls, as I read about Sabrina's Cousin Ambrose who try to make his new car work with witches brew instead of gas and it made the car fly!
Cheryl's dog Butterscotch liked hearing the story, too!
This kinda reminded me of the time Cheryl first moved to Springfield, after we met in summer camp, and we had "Red Robin's Day".
Pretty soon, Cheryl's mom came upstairs to take Cheryl's tray away. She told us Cheryl needed some rest, and it was time for us to go home now. Cheryl snuggled down in the covers as we said good-bye.
On Thursday, Cheryl was back in school, feeling better than ever! I'm glad she's feeling better. It's one thing when there's no school and you're at home having fun. It's another story when you're sick, you can't enjoy staying home, and it feels like the whole world is having fun without you! That's why I'm glad Sunny and I went to see her. I bet if people get sick in the future, there's some kind of super vitamin pill you can take to get you better in seconds! But Cheryl had to do it the hard way! Being sick is no fun at all!
Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Cheryl is feeling better. I'm sure the companionship of good friends made her recuperation better. When I was a kid my mom would give me Luden's wild cherry cough drops for my throat. Have you ever tried those?
Your future friend,
Fawn
Hi Fawn,
DeleteYes, I've had Luden's cough drops. I've also had Smith Bros., Vicks, and Sucrets. Vicks and Sucrets are yukky!
So sorry to hear that she was sick, but that was so nice of you and Sunny to go and visit her. Sore throats are no fun. I agree with you that Sucrets are yucky!!! Even the cherry ones were gross.
ReplyDeleteYep, in some cough drops, there's just no hiding that nasty taste! I like the ones that taste like candy better, (like Luden's and Smith Bros.), but my mom doesn't, 'cos she knows I'll probably eat them like candy! (not good for me!)
DeleteSorry Julie. There's no super pill yet, although I agree it would be nice. I have been feeling a bit under the weather with allergies and smoke (there are a few fires close by and it's very smoky). Glad Cheryl is doing better. You and Sunny are great friends.
ReplyDeleteMelodie
Thanks Melodie. I'm sorry to hear about the fires. I hope no one is getting hurt!
DeleteI don't think there have been any houses burnt, but a lot of people are coughing consistently, which is no fun. It seemed better this morning, but we still need rain.
DeleteCan't wait to see more of the fun things you and your friends do. Are you excited that Thanksgiving is coming up?
Melodie
That's a bummer. I hope it rains soon.
DeleteMe too, although the fires have been contained. It's a lot better.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving a week early!
Melodie
Poor Cheryl. I hope she gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteShe was back at school the next day.
DeletePoor Cheryl! Our whole family had colds last month and it was a bummer. There is something so nice about having your mom bring you hot soup in bed when you're sick though. It was so nice of you girls to think of Cheryl and bring her some things to cheer her up!
ReplyDeleteWow, your whole family got sick at the same time? That IS a bummer. My mom says I turn into a baby when I get sick. I get kinda whiny 'cos I feel yukky and I have to stay in bed. But she'll bring me soup or juice and she reads me stories, or sings to me or if I'm up to it, we'll play games. Mom's are the greatest when you're sick, aren't they?
