Slippin' and Slidin' at Cheryl's

Hello future readers,

Today Cheryl invited me and Susan to come over after lunch and play on her new Slip 'N Slide. Hey! Just like Danny had at his 4th of July party a couple of years ago. Outta site! Susan and I changed into our swimsuits, grabbed some towels, and walked over to Cheryl's house. She was waiting out front to meet us.

It was super hot today, so we couldn't wait to to start sliding! Cheryl's mom hooked it onto the garden hose. Before Susan or I could even blink, Cheryl pulled off her shorts, ran straight for the Slip 'N' Slide yelling "Me first!" I thought she was gonna land on her head as she hit that thing spinning and rolling around!

"WHHOOOAAAA!"

I was next! I got a good running start, but I felt one foot touch the plastic, and all of a sudden my feet slipped out from under me! Yikes! Ready or not (and I was definitely NOT), here I come!

"YIIIKKES!"

It wasn't the launch I planned, but it was groovy, anyway. Now it was Susan's turn. She thought she'd try it sitting up, but that didn't work out too well.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!":

We all had a few more turns. We were having so much fun, we almost didn't hear the ice-cream truck coming up the block! Fast as lightning, Cheryl ran to ask her mom for 75 cents, (that's a quarter for each of us), so we could buy some ice-cream. Far out! Was that ever nice of Cheryl and her mom!  We sat down on our towels to eat them.

Cheryl had pistachio, I had tutti-fruiti, and Susan had chocolate. Yummy!

We had such a great time! I love anything to do with getting wet on a hot, summer day. Now I was cool on the outside from being wet, and cool on the inside with my ice-cream cone. What a super way to spend a summer's day!

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

  1. Looks like a fun day! Here's something to look forward to in the future--a giant slip and slide that they set up in the city streets! It's not permanent, it's traveling around the country so that people all over get to try it out. It's going to be not far from here tomorrow, it looks pretty cool.

    1. Wow! Really? That's sounds really outta site! I think it would be groovy (and really funny), to see grown-ups on a Slip 'N Slide! Are you gonna try it?

    2. I wasn't going to, but now no one gets to, they had to cancel it due to bad weather. :( It looked like it would be a lot of fun though. Because it was going to be on the city streets, you needed to have an inner tube or floating thing to do it, just to give you a bit of cushion.

    1. Yikes! How do you break a Slip 'N Slide?

    2. We made a hole in the side and the water kept leaking out. So, my friend would hold the hole shut until someone got close to her hands, and then she would let go. We had a lot of fun.

  4. Hi Julie,
We don't have Slip 'N Slide but we do have a sprinkler that is lots of fun. A hot day, water and ice cream is always a good combination. I love your flip flop towel. Flip flop motifs are very popular in 2015. I guess some things never change.

    1. Hi Fawn,

Sometimes my mom lets me do that too. She hooks up to hose to our lawn sprinkler and lets me and my friends run through it, since I don't have a Slip 'N Slide or kiddie pool. And I like flip-flops too, even though I don't wear them. Sometimes that thing between your toes just hurts too much!

  5. Hi Julie,
I don't wear flip flops either for that very reason. The flip flop motif is so popular now that they even make paper notepads in that shape and recently I saw a door wreath made out of flip flops which would be very cute for a house at the beach.

    1. I know how you feel about flip flops. In Florida, all my friends would wear them, but I couldn't. I have really high arches which make flats painful to wear.
Flip flop motifs are really popular. I don't get why, but it is so popular with beach towels and swimwear. I used to have swim shorts with flip flops on them. Florida especially enjoys the flip flop motif.
