Fun On The Playground

Hello future readers!

Happy summer! I really love summer vacation, because there's so many fun things to do, and always someone around to do them with! A couple of days ago, Kim and I rode our bikes to the playground.

Some of the kids were already there. Wendy and April were on the see-saw.

Danny, Jason and Kyle were playing basketball.

Melody was playing on the slide.

While her cousin Stephanie was riding around on her scooter.

Kim and I rode over and said hello to the girls. The guys had gone to the water fountain.

We parked our bikes and Kim ran off to play tether ball with Melody, while I played on the slide with April.

I guess the boys got tired of playing basketball, and decided to play with us girls. Jason and Wendy played on the bars. Danny asked Stephanie if her could ride on her scooter, and Kyle ran up to Stephanie and yelled "Tag, you're it, Steph!"

We had a groovy time. It's fun playing on the playground when you don't have to worry about going back to class. It was a really hot day, and I must have made 4 trips to the water fountain! Pretty soon, Kim and I decided to leave. I was sleeping over at her house. Her mom was making a picnic dinner on the porch, and she was gonna make some homemade strawberry ice-cream for dessert! Far out! You can't do stuff like that during the school year in the middle of the week!

I hope people in the future still have friends to hang out with and do groovy things during summer vacation.

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

  1. Hi Julie
Kids in the future still have sleepovers during summer vacation. And they do some pretty fun stuff. I like summer vacation because I can play with my friends. Today we are going to apply for a membership to a local pool. I can't wait Togo swimming.

    1. Wow, in the future you have to be a member of a pool to go swimming? We just have to go and pay 50 cents to get in, and anyone can swim.

    2. Wow. I wish I just had to pay 50 cents. The pool we are members of is a big pool that a lot of people go to. Neighborhood pools are usually free to residents. In Tennessee, there aren't many pools, so they cost money.

  2. Don't worry, Julie, we all still have lots of fun things to do in the summer and lots of friends to do those things with. It's funny though, because even though there's so many great things to do in the summer, sometimes kids still complain that they're bored. :)

    1. Those are 2 words I'm NEVER allowed to say to my mom, 'cos she'll give me something to do, and it's always a CHORE! The last time I said I was bored, I had to wash her car! I won't make that mistake again!

  3. Looks like your summer is off to a great start! We've had nothing but rain here for the past week and it looks like we are going to have another, the girls are getting tired of figuring out what to do indoors.

Here you don't have to be a member to go to the pool but it does cost something. A bit more than 50 cents I'm sure.

    1. It's such a drag when it rains for days or weeks. I know I drove my mom nuts when I couldn't go outside and play. I'm glad not everyone has to be members of a pool to swim. If it costs a lot to be a member, you'd be really sad 'cos you couldn't swim!

  4. Hi Julie,
Stephanie's scooter is really cool. Did she build it herself?
Homemade strawberry ice cream sounds yummy. Are you and Kim going to take turns turning the handle on the freezer?

    1. Hi Fawn,

Stephanie's dad built that scooter for her and Melody last year out of an old orange crate, and the wheels of an old strap-on roller skate. They decorated with painted flowers and a goofy license plate. And last night's picnic was outta site! And yeah, Kim and I helped turn the handle. We took turns counting to 30 back and forth so our arms didn't get too tired. The ice-cream was so yummy!

    2. Just wondering, Julie, what's your favorite kind of ice cream? I have a lot of favorites, but one I like the best is peanut butter cup. ;) Do they have that flavor in the 70s?

    3. Hi Sunny,

I guess maybe you missed it, but someone asked me that very same question, when I talked about Kyle at Sam's Snack Shack. My favorite ice-cream is Raspberry Ripple Royale. It's really yummy. Sam's doesn't have it, my mom sometimes buys it at the grocery store. Peanut butter cup ice-cream? You mean like Reese's candy? That must taste good, we don't have that here in the 70s.

    1. We sll had a super time. But this isn't the park. It's our school playground. It's the only place in town that has stuff like monkey bars, a slide and a see-saw to play on. The park doesn't have that stuff. It's green and grassy, with lotsa trees and a little creek running through it to sail toy boats, benches to sit on, and on the far side is a baseball diamond.
