Happy Halloween!

Hello future readers!

It's finally Halloween! It seems like it took forever for this day to come! School is super groovy on Halloween. We all get to wear our costumes to school and we don't even need to bring our books! The teachers know that us kids are much too excited to get any work done anyway. Before we got in line to go inside, Stephanie introduced me and Raychel to her cousin, Melody.

Melody's parents are in the Peace Corps. That means they're part of a group who goes to poor countries and help people build houses and plant crops and stuff like that. Some of the countries don't have real schools or teachers yet, and since her parents didn't want Melody to miss school,  she came to live with Stephanie and her family. Wouldn't you know it? The lucky duck gets to start school on Halloween!

When Miss LaSalle came out to bring our class inside, she didn't have a costume on. We all thought that was a little strange.  When we got to our class, we were all talking as we were sitting down, so none of us noticed that she reached in her desk drawer and pulled something out. When she called the class to attention, we all looked at her and cracked up!

She put on an eye patch, a scarf and a fake moustache like a pirate! It was pretty funny! She read "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow" to us. That Headless Horseman is super scary! Then we all went out to the playground for the Halloween Parade. Each class gets to parade around the playground so everyone could see their costumes. Mrs. Taylor announced each of the classes. Finally it was the 4th grade's turn.

Miss LaSalle led our class around the playground while Mrs. Johnson's class cheered.

When it was time for Mrs. Johnson's class to march, we cheered for them.

After the parade, we had lunch. After lunch Miss LaSalle gave us a party! We had fruit punch, popcorn balls, cookies, caramel apples, candy bars and lollipops! It was dynamite!

Then came the best part of the school day...the Spook House! There was a carnival Spook House ride set up in the back of the school! Far out! We all waited in line for our turn to ride. Susan was a little scared, but said she'd go in, if I held her hand.

It wasn't so scary, but I think Susan kept her eyes closed anyway. After school we all went home to get ready to go trick-or-treating. We went to pick up Crissy and her little cousin, Velvet. It was gonna be Velvet's first time going out with us older kids. Kerry warned her to behave herself and stay close to Crissy.

We went all over the neighborhood; each of our own houses, all of our teachers and friends. It was outta site! And we got loads of candy!

*whew* It was such super groovy and super busy day, that I'm pooped out! If they still celebrate Halloween in the future, I hope yours is just as great as mine was. *yawn* Happy Halloween, future readers!

Way Down Yonder In The Pumpkin Patch

Hello future readers,

This past Friday, Miss LaSalle took us on a field trip to the Springfield Farms Pumpkin Patch. It's about 10 miles outside of town, so we had to take a school bus to get there.

The bus ride was fun. We were joking and laughing. Then Lisa started singing , "Pick up the pumpkins and put 'em in the basket way down yonder in the pumpkin patch".  So we all sang the rest of the way there.

When we finally got off the bus, it was really beautiful. It looked like something out of a painting. Far out!

Miss LaSalle told us we could run around, but not to go where she couldn't see us. We were allowed to pick one pumpkin to take home.

Danny spotted the pumpkin he wanted right away. The rest of us wanted to look around a little more.

About half an hour later, after everyone picked out their pumpkin, Miss LaSalle had us pose for a group picture before we got back on the bus.

 

 It was a really super day. I couldn't wait to get my pumpkin home and carve it with my mom. I always have trouble with the mouth.  Anyway, we all had a great time. I'm glad we have a groovy teacher who takes us on field trips. Do people still grow things like pumpkins in the future? Or do you push a button on a computer and things just appear like on "Star Trek" or "The Jetsons"? I think it would be great to have an outta site garden, but we don't have room for one. But since I can't grow my own vegetables and fruits, it's great to come out to a farm where all kinds of things grow.

Getting ready for Halloween!

Hello future readers!

Right on! It's October! And you know what that means? It's almost Halloween! I hope people still celebrate this holiday in the future, because it's the best thing about the Fall season! Costumes, candy, trick-or-treating, spook houses, witches, ghosts, monsters...it's just so much fun! My mom got a witch statue for my room.

It's creepy, but groovy.  When we got to school on Monday, Miss LaSalle decorated the classroom, and had us make jack-o-lanterns.

Seeing those decorations and doing those art projects always gets me excited for the fun things we'll be doing at school; going on a field trip to the pumpkin patch, the Halloween parade, our class party, the Spook House...I can hardly wait!

After school, my mom asked me to go to Woolworth and buy some of our own wall decorations and some candy for the trick-or-treaters. I ran into Danny and Raychel there. They were picking out their costumes.

Danny wants to be Mr. Spock from "Star Trek" and Raychel wants to be Yogi Bear. I think I'm gonna be Wonder Woman. This is gonna be such a dynamite month! I'll be writing more about all the far out things we'll be doing, but now my mom is yelling for me to turn off my light and go to sleep. Go to sleep, she says. That's gonna be tough, because I'm just too excited!

Red Robins Day

Hello future readers!

Well, we all got through the first week of school. It's weird getting back on school schedule after almost 3 months of summer! Anyway, on Friday after school, Cheryl, Sunny and I made plans to have "Red Robins Day". We weren't trying to leave the rest of our friends out, but well, you really get to know a person when you live with them for 2 weeks. It's almost like you're sisters. For example, I know that Cheryl twirls her hair when she's trying to fall asleep. Sunny snores! And both of them brush their hair for 20 strokes every night before bedtime. So we decided to celebrate our being back together with "Red Robins Day". We took Cheryl on a mini tour of our town. Not the whole town, just the good stuff like the park, the library, the candy store, the movie house and we ended the tour with Sam's Snack Shack. Sunny and I ordered crème soda floats, and Cheryl ordered a strawberry milkshake.

I was born here in Springfield, but my friends who have moved here from bigger cities say that living in a small town takes some getting used to. Cheryl thought it was weird that we had only 1 movie house, and no McDonald's. I tell her that it's really cool because everybody knows everybody your folks don't worry about you. I know she'll get used to things, just like all my other friends who moved here did.

Cheryl noticed the jukebox in the corner and put in a dime. She chose "Fire" by the Ohio Players. I love that song! Boogie time!

After we left the Snack Shack, Cheryl invited us over to her house. Far out! Her mom was really nice and was really happy to meet "those nice girls from camp she heard so much about". (haha!) We went up to Cheryl's room, and saw her dog waiting for her!

That pooch was huge, even bigger than Danny's dog, Muttley! Cheryl called her Butterscotch.  She was really friendly and loved to be petted. So we played with the dog and sat around and rapped. Cheryl wanted to know all about our friends, and school, and fun stuff to do in Springfield.

I really liked Cheryl's room. She was into horses, Nancy Drew books, and Wesley Eure who plays Will Marshall in "Land Of The Lost". She has a pretty doll named Samantha, and keeps a dish of candy in her room for company. Outta site!

We all had a pretty good time. We made plans to meet at the playground tomorrow after the Saturday morning cartoons were over. I love making new friends! I knew Cheryl was gonna fit in great with all our friends and love living in Springfield as much as I do!
