Writing to Santa Claus

Hello future readers,

A few days ago, I was in the TV room watching some cartoons when I came home from school. I really like watching after school cartoons, especially at this time of the year, because there are always groovy toy commercials on in between. I think that's why my mom doesn't like to order Christmas catalogs from the department stores, because she knows I always see the commercials on TV and talk about the toys I want. If I had a catalog, she thinks I'd never stop bugging her!

Well anyway, I was watching cartoons when a commercial for the  "My Real Baby" doll comes on. She was so cute! And you could get different clothes, a crib, a stroller, baby bottles and diapers for her!

Her little face looks almost just like a real baby! No wonder that's what they call her! I ran to the kitchen to get a pen and some paper out of the drawer and ran back to the TV room. (Mom hates it when I run in the house, but I was just so excited!) I decided to write a letter to Santa (between commercials), since my mom was taking me to the shopping center next Saturday anyway.

I thought about asking Santa for all the neat stuff that you can get for that doll, but I didn't want to be greedy. That might make Santa mad and then he wouldn't get me anything! So I decided that just the doll would be fine. But there were some other things I wanted too. I also really wanted a Lite Brite. In case you don't know what that is, it's a toy you plug in with a light bulb inside and a black background full of holes for colored pegs. It comes with black paper with pictures on them, so you can put the pegs on the pictures, and the light glows through the pegs. It's really far out. Jennifer has one in her room and uses it as a night light. What a super idea! I probably wouldn't do that, 'cos I'm not scared of the dark, but maybe I could use that to play dance party with my dolls! So I thought about what I wanted to say, and I wrote out my letter.

I thought it couldn't hurt to ask for some new sneakers and a new t-shirt too.  My mom told me that sometimes Santa needs a little help, so when we go to Conways Department store to visit Santa, I'm gonna use some of my allowance I saved up, and buy a couple of small toys to put in the charity box at church. I can't afford anything as groovy as a My Real Baby, but maybe a Hot Wheels car and a paper doll book or some jacks for some kids who might not get a lot for Christmas. My mom says that sometimes Santa will bring you what you need, instead of what you want. So if some kids whose families don't have a lot of money get socks and a sweater, maybe they'll get something I bought and have a happier Christmas.  I hope in the future there aren't any more poor kids and that there's enough money to buy food and toys for everybody! There's a song on my "Jackson 5 Christmas Album" that goes:

"Someday at Christmas we'll see a land
With no hungry children, no empty hands
One happy morning people will share
A world where people care."

I hope Christmas is like that for you,  future readers!

Until next time,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

  1. I hope you get everything you ask for for Christmas.

What's your favorite Christmas tradition? Mine are performing in the Nutcracker and making presents. I love to lock myself in my sewing room and make things for hours.

    1. I guess my favorite thing is decorating the tree on Christmas Eve. We play Christmas records and sing while we decorate. My mom always gives me a "Waiting for Santa" gift on Christmas Eve too.

    2. That sounds like fun. Do you ever make Christmas cookies? If so, what cookies do you make? I like marble snickerdoodles, which is half regular snickerdoodle and half chocolate snickerdoodle.

    4. Sounds delicious. What do you usually get in your stocking? We get candy, and sometimes a special Christmas ornament.

  2. Wow, Julie! You have really nice handwriting.
That My Real Baby doll looks super cute!! They still have Lite Brites in the future- those things are really cool. What a great idea to use it as a night light or a dance party light! And sadly, there are still poor kids in the future, but there are also plenty of nice people that donate money and toys to them. You're so generous to use some of your allowance to buy toys for the kids!

    1. Wow! There are still Lite Brites in the future? That's really far out! I'm really surprised that people in the future haven't found a way to solve th problem of poor people. That's sad. But I'm glad there are still kind people who'll give them a good Christmas.

  3. By the way, I really like your Brady Bunch T-shirt! That's a great show. It still airs on TV in 2015!

  7. That is a great letter to Santa and a wonderful thing to do using your allowance to buy gifts for others who might not get them. In the future, the Marine Corps has a program called Toys for Tots. We give to that each year. It's fun to pick out things we'd like then send them away to someone else.

I hope Santa has you on the super groovy nice list!

  8. Hi Julie! What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

  9. Hi Julie,
Unfortunately there are still poor children in the future, however, there are also many generous people who keep this in mind at the holidays and provide food and toys to help. We take our grandchildren shopping for Toys for Tots and this gives them an opportunity to be kind to others less fortunate. Thank you for using your allowance to buy toys for the charity box. You will put smiles on several children's faces this Christmas.
Merry Christmas from your future friend,
    Fawn

    1. It's sad that there are still poor people in the future. I'm glad our church has a charity box, but I know it isn't big enough to feed all the hungry people everywhere who won't get Christmas dinner this year. And I know I'd feel bad if I woke up and didn't have any toys on Christmas morning. I just can't let some kid get only socks and underwear!

  10. I hope Santa brings you everything on your list Julie! When I was about your age I asked Santa for a "Newborn Baby Tender love" and I got her! I was SO excited I will never forget that Christmas and how happy I was. I played with her until I was too old for babydolls. Now I'm old enough to play with dolls again. :)

    1. I've seen commercials for Baby Tender Love dolls. I think My Real Baby is kinda like her. I hope I never get too old to ply with dolls.
