Shante' Invites Us Over

Hello future readers,

On Thursday morning, Shante' called and invited me over to play. I told her my pen pal Vivienne was visiting, and she said she'd love to meet her! She said we should each bring a doll for a doll party. Far out! When we got to Shante's house, her mom sent us upstairs to her room.

She was just getting her doll Cecile off the bed when we came in. I introduced Shante' to Vivienne. Shante' told her it was great to met her and she loved Vivienne's long wavy hair.

I walked over to the table and Shante' had a wonderful "lunch" all set up for the dolls. She had gotten some new doll food plates for Christmas. They were so cute. They looked like little plates of spaghetti, carrots and green beans.

We all sat down and pretended the dolls were eating food and drinking their milk and talking about school and T.V. and stuff like that.

We pretended the dolls all cleaned their plates and were ready for a nap. So we laid them all down on Shante's bed.

Then Shante' went into her closet. We wondered what she was pulling out of there.

She came out with a "Twister" game. She told us it didn't have a box because she got it at a garage sale for a quarter.

We all decided that I would be the spinner. Even though I have this game myself, I really don't like Twister that much anymore. Someone always steps on my hair or I wind up with someone's elbow in my stomach.

Shante' wanted to play turns. That means each person gets a different move. Vivienne said that was OK with her, so I called their names ahead of each move.

They were doing pretty good for a while, then it stared getting harder!

"Vivienne...right hand BLUE."

Then Vivienne's right foot slid out from under her. She tried to catch herself, but she landed right on top of Shante'!

First I started cracking up, and then I had them laughing. I mean, they did look pretty silly lying in a heap like that!

We all agreed that since Vivienne fell on  Shante' and made her lose her balance, that Shante' was the winner. It's great to play games when no one is a sore loser. I had a good time playing dolls and "Twister" with Shante' and I know Vivienne did too. I'm glad my friends all seem to like Vivienne. The next time she visits, she won't feel like such a stranger. She'll have lotsa friends here in her "home away from home", Springfield!

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

    3. I love my dolls. I like to switch them around and let them all have a turn to be my favorite so that they don't feel left out.

  3. Hi Julie,
Playing with dolls was one of my most favorite things to do when I was a young girl. Vivienne shares my love of dolls. Sometimes I get out my own childhood dolls and we play together. Maybe someday you'll play dolls with your daughter.
