Loud And Proud

Hello future readers,

This past Friday, my mom pulled this note out of our mailbox:

A couple of years ago, Danny formed a little band for our school talent show, with Sunny and Crissy called "Loud And Proud". Crissy played guitar, Sunny played tambourine and Danny played this little toy drum. The sang to an Archie record and were actually pretty good.  Well this past Christmas, Danny got a real drum set. He was so excited, he wanted the band to play again. But Crissy told him she only did it for the talent show, and was too busy with her modeling to be in a band again. Since Kim and Susan take guitar lessons with Kerry at the Community Center, Danny asked if one of them could be in his band. Susan said she would need a lot more practice to play that well, but Kim said she could do it. They've been practicing for a month now, and they were ready to put on a show. But twenty-five cents? That's half of my allowance! Luckily I found 2 dimes in the couch cushions on Friday, so that meant I only had to fork over a nickel to see Danny's band. All right! I called Cheryl to see if she got one of Danny's notes too. She did, so we decided to walk over to Danny's together.

When we got to Danny's house, April, Wendy and Kyle were already there. We pulled up a couple of boxes and sat down.

I looked around for a record player or tape recorder, I didn't see one, so that meant they were really gonna perform live! Outta site! They played "Melody Hill" by The Archies. "That's The Way I Like It" by K.C. & The Sunshine Band, and "C'mon Get Happy" by The Partridge Family.! YAY!

They weren't perfect. The messed up some notes here and there, and played the songs a little slower than the records, but I think they played darn good for a bunch of 4th grade school kids! And so did the other kids.

When they were playing "C'mon Get Happy", I pretended I was in The Partridge Family's garage listening to them play! Hahaha! When it was over, we all cheered!

                                                          "YAY" *whistle*

                                               "WOO! All right!" *more whistles*

They all took a bow, and the show was over. Kyle wanted to try out Danny's drums.

"Its not as easy as it looks!", Kyle told Danny.

And Cheryl wanted to try Kim's guitar.

"I wish my mom would let me take guitar lessons", Cheryl said.
"But you play the violin so pretty", Kim told her.

Just then we heard an ice-cream truck coming down the street. Danny's mom got each of us a cone! Far out! Since the cones were a quarter, and admission to Danny's show was a quarter, it was almost like we were all getting paid back!

I just love Raspberry Ripple Royale ice-cream!

Mrs. Campbell is so nice! And Danny's band was super! I hope they keep on practicing, so they get really good and put on a concert at school! Wouldn't that be something?

I know there's music in the future, but are there still bands? Or is all your music computerized? I hope there are still live bands, and that kids still play instruments and not just buttons on a computer. I had a groovy time at Danny's! I'm really proud of "Loud and Proud". *giggle* I think Danny chose the right name for his band!

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

  1. I love that they put a band together and I really like the name they picked. There are still band's together in the future and instruments haven't changed all that much. Electronics are a part of it, but there is still nothing as good as the original style instruments! I look forward to seeing what else the band does in the future.

    1. Aren't they super? It's good that there are still bands in the future. I haven't been to too many concerts yet, but it's nice to know I'll be able to when I'm a grown-up!

  2. Hi Julie! There are still bands in the future, although people do make computerized music. I still enjoy live music over a recording, though.

Loud and Proud did a great job. They should keep working on their songs so they can perform again.

    1. I hope so too. It would be neat to see them play for one of our school dances or at the Community Center or something. Go Loud and Proud!

  3. Hi Julie,
"That's the way, aha aha, I like it, aha aha!" Julie, I just love your time capsule stories. Tell Danny, Kim and Julie to keep up the good work. Who knows, someday they might be as famous as the Beatles!
    Rock on, Loud and Proud!
    Your future friend,

    1. I don't know about being as famous as The Beatles, but they're the best band of 4th graders I ever heard! (and the only band of 4th graders I ever heard!) *giggle*

  4. Hi Julie,
Our Praise Band at church has the same drum set as Danny. Kevin plays the guitar in the band. Some of our favorite songs are, "Seek Ye First", "Pass It On", "Morning Has Broken" and "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love". Do you know those?
Speaking of love, Happy Valentine's Day!
    Your forever friend,

    1. Yeah, I remember how good Kevin can play. I know all those songs, except Pass It On. And Happy Valentine's Day to you too!

    2. It only takes a spark to get a fire going,
and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.
That's how it is with God's love.
      Once you've experienced it;
      you spread his love to everyone;
you want to pass it on.

  5. Hey Julie,
Tell Danny we give a shout-out to Loud and Proud. Way to Rock!
    Kevin and CJ

    1. Hey Kevin and C.J. ,

Danny wants to know (and I guess I do too), what's a "shout-out"?

    2. It just means saying "Hi!" (in a hip kind of way)

  6. Hi! Great to see a budding band practicing!

We do still have a lot of great home grown music in the future. Some of the bands you know are still playing too. We talked about the Rolling Stones the one time. But also Aerosmith (when they aren't fighting) Steven Tyler is singing some country now. The Who tours now and then. RUSH just retired mostly because Neil has tendinitis in his hands and arms from all the drumming. But we also have some really good new rock bands like Kaelo, The Black Keys, Muse, Dorothy, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, Lenny Kravitz, Adele, Lady Gaga. Really good stuff and back using real instruments; not synthesizers and electronic drums.

    Rock on!

    1. It's groovy there's still cool bands in the future. The only one you mentioned I know is The Rolling Stones. I'm not really into rock & roll, mostly just soul, Top 40 and what some people call "Bubble Gum Pop". *giggle" That sounds like the name of a group!

    2. We have plenty of bubble gum pop groups. DNCE, One Direction, One Republic, etc. they're mostly boy bands. It seems there are more solo girl pop stars.

  7. sounds like you had a great time. The ice cream was a great ending!

    1. I had a super time, and ice-cream is always a good ending to anything!
