Meet My Dolls

Hello future readers!

There are a lot of things I like to do, like jump rope, ride my bike, twirl baton, listen to music and stuff like that. But one of my most favorite things to do is play with my dolls. Most of them I've gotten for Easter or Christmas. Some of them I've asked for, and some of them were a complete surprise! I've got a pretty groovy doll collection, and I asked my mom to take pictures of me showing them to you. Here we go!

First I wanna show you my Barbie dolls. I don't have very many, just 3 of them.

This one is my Gold Medal Barbie. She's a gymnastics doll.

I'm really not all that great at tumbling, so I just pretend with my Gold Medal Barbie. The other 2 are Malibu Barbie (I call her Suntan Barbie), and Bead and Braid Christie.

This is my doll JuJu. She's my favorite. She's the doll I sleep with and tell secrets to, and hug real hard when I'm feeling sad.

I think JuJu looks a little like my friend Sunny. What do you think?

This is my Dawn doll. Isn't she pretty? I like to pretend she's a fashion model like my friend Crissy.

This is Lucy, a My Real Baby doll. She's my second favorite. She's the doll I like to play Mommy with. Isn't she just the cutest thing?

Here's my beautiful Blythe doll. Some of my friends think she's funny looking, 'cos she has a big head, but I don't think so. I think she's pretty far out!

Here's Sarah, my doll from Scotland. She has sleepy eyes! I really don't play with her all that much, 'cos she's a special doll from another country. She's the kind of doll that you just look at mostly, but play with sometimes.

I guess this one would have to be my 3rd favorite. This is my doll Vivian. I named her that 'cos my friend Vivienne from West Virginia sent her to me. And I think she looks just like Vivienne, don't you?

Here's Wonder Woman! She's really not a doll, more like an action figure. I'm not much into superheroes, but she sure does come in handy when I play with the boys!

Here are my Honey Hill Bunch dolls! Spunky, Sweet Lee, I,Q. and Curly Q.

This is Sweet Lee. She's called that 'cos she loves to bake! She's always making cookies for the club.

Here's Curly Q. I just got her this past Easter. She's a really good friend who loves telling jokes and funny stories.

I.Q. is the brain of the bunch. She's real smart and always has her nose in a book.

And finally this is Spunky, the only boy of the bunch. Actually there's another boy, Solo, but I don't have him. Spunky is the tallest member of the club, so I guess that makes him the oldest. My friend Jennifer has the youngest of the bunch, Lil' Kid.

And here's my Barbie Styling Head. She's not really a doll, but she's still a Barbie, so I guess that counts. She came with a comb, brush, curlers and make-up.  I don't want to mess up her hair, so she just stays the way she came out of the box.

Well I guess that's it for my----(What did you say, Mom? I forgot my Holly Hobbie doll? Oh no! You're right!) My mom just reminded me that I forgot my Holly Hobbie doll. She's at my friend Kim's house. Kim wanted to borrow her 'cos she's doing a report for school on Laura Ingalls Wilder, and wanted to draw some pictures of Holly Hobbie to go with the report. But that's OK, I have a picture of me with my Holly Hobbie doll. It was the first picture I used when I started this time capsule!

I had different covers on my bed back then. But look, I'm even wearing my hair the same way! Isn't that just too much?

Well, that really is it. I wonder if girls still play with dolls in the future? I couldn't imagine life without dolls to play with. When I'm playing with them, I can be all kinds of different people; a mommy, a fashion model, a gymnastics champ, a teenager, or a girl growing up in the 1800s. That's why I really love playing with dolls. My mom says that sometimes, she passes by my room  and hears me pretending with my dolls and laughs 'cos it reminds her of when she was little and played with her dolls. Even though I've seen pictures, it's still hard to imagine my mom being little! *giggle* Maybe if you still play with dolls, you an pretend you're a kid from the 70s, like me!

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend
Julie Newman

  1. I like your Barbies. I hadn't seen that kind before. I have a Dawn doll or two somewhere too. Your dolls must have a lot of fun with you!

    1. Thanks! I like Barbies, but I think I like bigger dolls better. They're easier to dress and their shoes don't get sucked up by the vacuum cleaner! I have such a groovy time playing dolls by myself or with my friends!

  2. That's a pretty good collection of dolls! I used to love Dawn dolls. And Sunshine Family too. And yes, that doll does look like Sunny!

    1. Kim has a Sunshine Family baby. She's really cute. Sunny has Rock Flower dolls that are the same size as Dawn, so we play with them together sometimes.

  3. We love dolls at my house! We have a Barbie doll or two, but mostly we play with bigger dolls. We also love stuffed animals.

It's so fun to have friends to play with, especially dolls. Our little sisters love playing with their cousins' Barbies. They are so creative.

    Morgan and Melodie

    1. I'm glad girls still play with dolls in the future. I only have a couple of stuffed animals. I just like dolls better!

  4. Count us among the doll lovers! I've never been a big fan of Barbies. As a very young girl I loved baby dolls and I have always liked bigger, child type dolls too.

It's nice to see you again Julie, happy belated Easter.

  5. Dear Julie,
You are a girl after my own heart! I love dolls too and have ever since I was a little girl. I still have my Barbie, my Horsman T16 which I named Amy Laura, my bride doll and my soft-bodied baby doll. I am happy to say that girls of all ages still love dolls in the future.
    Your future friend,

    1. Wow Fawn, I think it's really neat you still kept your dolls even after you got to be a grown-up. I may do that too. My mom says if my dolls still make me happy when I'm grown-up, I should keep them.

  6. Hi Julie,
There's almost no room on your bed for you! (giggle)

    1. Hi Vivienne!

Yeah, I know! That's why I keep most of them in my closet!

      Your friend,
      Big Funny Feet

  7. Hey Julie,
Got any GI Joes in your collection?
    Kevin, aka Turkey

    1. No Kevin,

Danny, Jason, Kyle and Marc play with GIJoes. But maybe one day I'll get a Ken doll. Hey, shouldn't that be "Kevin is a turkey instead of Kevin AKA Turkey?" (What Mom? AKA means also known as?) OK, I'll go along with that. Say hi to C.J., Betta and Little G, Turkey!

  8. Wow Julie, I love your doll collection! I had a Dawn doll when I was little, I loved her. I think my next favorite is your Holly Hobby doll.

    1. Wow, you had some of the same dolls as me? That's outta site!

  9. Hi Julie! I'm a grown up and I still like dolls. I don't exactly play with them, I was never a big fan of them when I was a girl, (I had toy horses to play with instead!) but I sure love them now! I have a lot of tiny dolls that I like to put into a dollhouse and take pictures of, and a special doll who sits on my bed during the day. I also like to dress my dolls for holidays and use them as a kind of decoration!

I wish I'd given them more of a chance when I was little; I think I missed out on a lot of fun.

    1. Hi Sar, (what an interesting name!)

I've seen those horse figures in stores, but I always thought they were more for decorations. I never really thought about playing with them. For me, I think that would be kinda hard, because I'm really into pretending. That's why I really love dolls, because I can be pretty much anything I want with them. And even though you're a grown-up now, you could still play with your dolls if you wanted to. You should try it some time!

  10. What a great collection! Yes, we do still play with dolls in the future. Some people more than others. I got so excited I had to show your post to Xyra. She got wistful and said, "I miss Spunky." and "Oh, I have a Scotland doll kind of like that."

All you dolls are really super! I like that you have a mix. change your doll with your mood. Wonder Woman is awesome! We have a channel that plays the series starring Lynda Carter - LOVE it! There is a new movie about Wonder Woman coming out this year, so super heroes are still popular in the future too!

Have a great day! Hope you get to spend some time with you friends and your dolls!

    1. Hi Melody and Xyra,

I'm glad you like my doll collection. I'm so sorry about your Spunky doll Xyra. I wish you could come over and play with mine. I think it's groovy you have a doll from Scotland, too! There's a TV show about Wonder Woman? I know there was a TV movie about her, (I watched it with my mom), but I didn't know about the show. I think the lady ho played Wonder Woman is so pretty. I usually don't pretend with superheroes that much, unless I'm playing with the boys. Kyle records the Super Friends on his tape recorder and then likes to act them out.

      *From Julie's doll mom, Sharry:*

The "made for TV movie" of Wonder Woman premiered in 1975, but the series didn't start until '76.

    2. Hi! Yes, You'll love it when it finally releases for you. :)

[Interesting, the dates I found were 74 for the movie and 75 for TV. Oh, well. Sources aren't as reliable as they used to be. ~Xyra]
